Memphis, Tenn., March 22, 2022 — A group of University of Memphis supporters announced the creation of 901 Fund, a charitable organization founded to drive awareness of charities with ties to the Memphis region and deepen the connection between the city of Memphis and the student-athletes who represent us.
Leveraging newly implemented name image, and likeness (NIL) legislation that allows student-athletes to be compensated for the use of their NIL rights, 901 Fund will present University of Memphis student-athletes with the opportunity to participate in a series of NIL engagements to promote local charities. These engagements will be designed to drive awareness of worthy causes, attendance to specific events and directly raise funds on behalf of the charities.
“The city of Memphis is world-renowned for its connections to entrepreneurship and charitable organizations, so it is fitting that we combine those two ideals in our first concentrated NIL effort,” said Bob Byrd, 901 Fund board member. “We believe this is a powerful tool for local charities to increase awareness of their missions as well as a wonderful way to help these young people capture the value of their NIL rights.”
901 Fund is led by Tigers On a Mission (TOM), with all board and management services provided pro bono. TOM is a group of committed and enthusiastic supporters of University of Memphis and invested in supporting local charities, University of Memphis student-athletes and the city of Memphis.
